Ireland Win by 44 lbs 11 ozs | ||||||
British hopes of a home soil victory on the fish rich waters of the Somerset Levels, were dashed by a superior performance by the Irish on Day One of the 18th International Pike Championship’s at the beginning of October.
A stunning lead of just over 70 lbs proved too much for the British to overhaul, though a strong fight-back in the opening couple of hours on Day 2 had the Irish fretting and starting to panic. However the pike went off the feed, abd the Irish held on for a deserved win.
A total of 191 pike were caught and safely returned over the two days of competition, with a couple of Bream being landed as well; with one taking a wobbled smelt and the other a Mepps spinner. 3 Low doubles were caught, with the best fish of the weekend weighing 13 lbs 07 ozs. Larger pike were hooked, but shook the hooks.
A full write up on the International will appear on this site in due time.
